Since when does Yahoo feel "GOD" is offensive??? This is Memorial Day Weekend and I was reading an article about a soldier widow and what she is going through. She feels caught in limbo between military life and civilian life. That is not what pissed me off.
After the article, I went and read the comments about the story. In the comments section, many people were trying to write "In God's hands" or "I lift these families of our fallen up to God in prayer in God's name." and instead of seeing the word GOD, they switched it to this array of symbols: @#$% That is how Yahoo! translated the word God. The only time you will see the word written out as it should be and not a bunch of symbols is if someone wrote G.O.D. with periods or they wrote it in capital letters.
Since when is it offensive to use God's name in a post... "In God We Trust", "In God's Hands", "In God's Name" and so on... Yahoo won't allow it... So being a Christian is now offensive to Yahoo??? I have informed the Christian Coalition about this type of censorship. Yahoo's taking the liberty to censor out God in a comment. Yahoo doesn't have the right to do that. I would like to know your opinion. Read the story and check out the comments. I am not the only one who is noticing this.
Here is Yahoo's guidelines for offensive material:
"Comments on Yahoo! News pages allow you to start discussions, ask questions, and share your opinions. Here's a few things to consider as you post:
Please be considerate and respectful of your fellow posters. Use standard writing style and punctuation. Regular sentences and basic grammar will help others understand you.
Do not use profanity, obscenities, abusive language, or otherwise objectionable content as determined by Yahoo!, in its sole discretion. Comments should not harass, abuse, or threaten another's personal safety or property, make false statements, defame, or impersonate someone else. Remember this is a public forum. Do not post personal information including phone numbers, email or mailing addresses, or credit card information belonging to you or others.
Do not copy others' material, trademarks, or other intellectual property—it is illegal. This includes cutting and pasting content from other websites. Comments should be your own original thoughts. Do not post HTML, viruses, or other malicious code.
Yahoo! reserves the right to refuse or remove any comment that does not comply with these guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service and to terminate your Yahoo! account (including email) for a violation. Yahoo! is not responsible or liable in any way for comments posted by its users."
So explain how any of those rules state that the use of the word GOD is wrong to the point that they will substitute that word with symbols???
I am not sure why Yahoo decided to "suddenly" allow people to type the word "God" in the comments section. It doesn't excuse what they did in the first place. I will still not return to Yahoo as an email account holder. I have moved on to a better one. I would still like to know what Yahoo was thinking in doing that and an apology wouldn't be a bad idea too...
